Passing of Joan O’Brien
Great sadness was occasioned in the parish of Silvermines and Templederry with the news of the passing of Joan O’Brien (nee Harrington) on Saturday last.
A native of Templederry, Joan was steeped in the GAA and was an active member of the Silvermines GAA club throughout her lifetime, serving on numerous club committees, the club Lotto committee and also as Juvenile Secretary in the mid nineties. Joan was also a loyal promoter of the Tipperary draw in the parish since its inception and was a familiar and friendly face in Dolla for many years.
Testament to her huge popularity were the crowds which attended Joan’s removal on Monday eveningfrom Ryan’s Funeral Home to Silvermines Church and again at her Funeral Mass on Tuesday morning. A guard of honour was observed by members of the club prior to Joan’s funeral Mass on Tuesday morning before Joan was laid to her final rest in Kilmore Graveyard.
The Silvermines GAA Club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to Joan’s husband, Michael, sons Colm, Michéal, Odhrán, Brian and Dónall, daughter Siobhán and the extended O’Brien and Harrington families.
