Silvermines GAA Notes

Junior C

Well done to our Junior ‘C’ hurlers who had a well-deserved win 1-13 to 0-13 over Kilruane on Sunday afternoon last in Cloughjordan. Silvermines led by 1-7 to 0-9 at the interval after a 19th minute Sean Quinlan goal from a free provided the Mines’ with a huge boost.

Silvermines pushed on in the second half with further frees from Sean Quinlan coupled with points from John Ryan and Bryan Seymour ensuring a hard-earned win for the Mines.

Scorers: S. Quinlan 1-7 all frees, B. Seymour 0-3, TJ Timmons, D. Ryan and J. Ryan 0-1 each.

Camogie

Commiserations to our senior side who lost out to Clonoulty by 1-18 to 0-7 in the county quarter-final of the Tipperary Senior Camogie championship on Sunday last.

Clonoulty led by 1-12 to 0-2 at half-time and were indeed the stronger side in the opening half with the Silvermines points coming from Sarah Madden and Ellen Cunneen. Sarah Madden tacked on two further points after the re-start before Ellen Cunneen brought the Mines’ tally to five point. Silvermines battled on gamely in the final quarter with Ellen Cunneen and Sarah Murphy on target but it was Clonoulty who deservedly ran out victors to progress to this year’s county senior semi-final.

Commiserations also to our Junior side who lost out to Portroe on a scoreline of 2-3 to 1-15 in what proved a well-contested championship clash in Dolla on Friday evening. The Mines started brightly with an early goal but Portroe picked off their points throughout the opening half to lead by 1-12 to 2-1 at the break. Silvermines battled gamely in the second half but Portroe had too much in attack and ran out deserving nine point winners.

LGFA

Hard luck to our junior side who were knocked out of the championship recently by Loughmore-Castleiney on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-2. Our under 14 side overcame a very weak Moycarkey Borris at the weekend and are down to play Aherlow at 3pm on the 8th of October next. Please keep an eye on fixtures for any changes. Our under 19 side are also down to play Cappawhite in Cappawhite on the 15th October.

Cardiac Screening

Thank you to all who took part in the cardiac screening program on Dolla over the weekend.
